Something Beautiful by Sharon Dennis Wyeth

It's a sunny morning, little girl is getting ready for school. She glances through her window, a lot of trash and broken glass in her courtyard.

She comes out of her building, and the building door is scribbled with the words DIE. While passing through the road she sees a lady whose house is a cardboard box and she is sleeping by covering herself with a plastic sheet.

She runs through a dark lane, as her mama said not to stop there. Then she crosses a garden with no flowers. The little girl remembers that her mama said "Everyone should have something beautiful in their life"

So where is my something beautiful ??? Her journey of search starts.

In school, the teacher teaches the word "BEAUTIFUL," and the little girl thinks It means "Something when you have it, your heart is happy." So, starting from school, she keeps on asking everyone whether they have something beautiful.

Everyone, from the diner to her friends, the fruit vendor, her aunt, the old man in her society, and her mom, has an answer. What do they say? What is something beautiful according to them? That is the rest of the story.

Beauty doesn't mean the outer look. It is something that one has to feel from the inside, different from one 's skin colour. Wherever we live, there is something beautiful around us, and it includes our attitude towards others too. With outstanding illustrations, this book also teaches social consciousness, and how to keep our surroundings clean and neat.
